SUBMERGED IN ECHOES
A selection from this bold series of artworks
challenging both the artist and the viewer. The
use of colour is powerfully evocative, speaking
directly to our emotions. While referencing and
being challenged by Malevich's Black Squares,
the artist draws on the symbolic meaning of
colour found in the writings of Jungian
psychoanalyst Clarissa Pinkola Estés.
Black often features, symbolizing the light that
will come, the hidden truths that will become
clear - it represents both refuge and shadow.
White creates the promise of new beginnings,
filling voids and nourishing the soul. The
investigation of these themes is presented to
the viewer as an engaging conversation,
imbued with hope and inviting deeper
reflection on our lives. The artworks resist
singular interpretations, revealing multiple
readings over time. The production of this series
was supported by the Arts Council NI through
SIAP Award.
